Information on the village of Morebattle, near Kelso in Scotland.
Name - the name means the dwelling on the lake - 'mere' being a lake or loch, 'botl' or 'bodl' from the Anglian meaning a house or dwelling. There was a substantial loch between Morebattle and Linton which was drained as part of the nineteenth century agricultural improvements in the area. Graveyard Record - The Morebattle Church Graveyard has been recorded by the Borders Family History Society in Roxburghshire Monumental Inscriptions Vol II. Hounam and Linton are recorded in Vol I.
